Sean Steadman & Ned Vena
End Date: 17/07/2020
Rather than studies or preparatory sketches, his drawings act as an outlet whereby a vocabulary or muscle memory of form develops to allow a spontaneity in composition. Column, 2020, contains a number of arrow heads at the end of swathes of blue that weave in between one another, coalescing into a tangle of weight and form. Using a limited palette of blues on a dark blue paper, the arrowheads give direction to the dynamism and spontaneity of Steadman’s mark making.
Sean Steadman utilises drawing as a means to develop the vast language of shapes and forms that inform his painting practice. Favouring charcoal and pastel, his drawings enable an immediacy of expression not possible with oil on canvas.
