Kudzanai Chiurai – Paintings from the Radical Archive
End Date: 31/07/2020
Chiurai’s practice attempts to disrupt what the artist refers to as “colonial futures” by creating “counter-memories” within his images to contest dominant colonial narratives. The title of the exhibition refers to Chiurai’s most recent body of work – a pastiche and homage to posters created and distributed during Zimbabwe’s turbulent 1970s period, which were generated with the intention to incite political action.
Goodman Gallery is pleased to present a solo presentation of works by Kudzanai Chiurai, titled ‘Paintings from the Radical Archive’.This selection of works, spanning a decade of practice, attests to the artist’s acute awareness of the aftermaths of colonial histories which is inscribed in his works alongside imagined narratives.
